Chairman of the anti graft agency EFCC Olukoyede Ola , has made it known that he will relieve himself of his duties by resignation if former Kogi state Governor Yahaya Bello is not brought to book.
While speaking to News men on Tuesday, April 23rd, at EFCC headquarters in jabi , Abuja the anti-graft agency boss pledged that those who obstructed the arrest of the former Governor Bello will be brought to Justice.
On April 18th former Governor Bello was declared wanted by the EFCC over an alleged N80 billion financial crime . Yahaya Bello has not appeared in court for scheduled arraignments since he was declared wanted.
The EFCC Boss Ola made it known to news men that he placed a direct phone across to Fmr Gov Bello out of respect, urging him to appear before the commission and address the charges levied against him. He however said Fmr Gov Bello declined the invitation to appear before the commission.
Yahaya Bello refused that he was not invited by the anti graft agency thereby dating the commission to provide a copy of the invitation letter we sent to him.
In an official statement through the Fmr Gov’s office on Tuesday, Yahaya Bello accused the commission of spreading lies.
The Anti graft agency Boss said ” If i do not personally oversee the end of the investigation regarding Yahaya Bello’s case I will tender my resignation letter as the chairman of the Economic and financial crimes commission EFCC.
“Two past governor’s I have arraigned Willie Obiano and Abdulfatah Ahmed. Have been granted freedom now. But for Bello we waited for the court order.
If i can have former Governor’s Abdulfatah Ahmed, Chief Olu Agunloye and Willie Obiano then why not Yahaya Bello..? He said.
Ola also disclosed that the former Governor Yahaya Bello had transferred $720,000 from the government’s account to a bureau de change before leaving office to pay for his child’s school fee in advance.
Because he knew he was about to leave the government house he used such amount to pay for the advance of his child’s tuition fee.
A poor and struggling state like Kogi state and I am expected to close my eyes and keep mute under the guise that I am being used . Being used by who at this point of my life ” The Anti-graft agency Boss said.
