Governor Mankinde Shuts down Illegal mining facility in Oyo

A facility suspected to be used by illegal miners in the packaging and processing of Lithium was closed down on Saturday February 24th by His Excellency Governor Seyi Mankinde of Oyo State.

Sulaimon Olarewaju who is the Governor’s chief press secretary said his principal who is also the number one citizen of the state gave Executive order for the closure of the facility which it’s main function was a factory for recycling batteries and tyres.

The Governor ordered for the arrest of the four workers suspected to be carrying out operations on the illegal site. He stated that their opreatons are against the approved licence secured from the government for business operations in the state.

Thorough investigation carried out on the factory site at ldi Ayunre , Oluyole Local Government Area lbadan has shown that it’s operations were carried out by some Chinese.

The CPS also noted that where as the federal government issued an operational licence to inline with constitutional provisions; circumstances of security threats and concerns will always fall in if the states do not also have a hand in the issuance of mining licences.

Correspondents reported that the state government said it would take over the illegal factory facility through a full legal process till it gets to the root of the whole matter.
